Things to Note before Buying a New Thermos

Thermos containers have been saving lives since forever, especially during winter. Although they are primarily known for keeping drinks hot or cold, they also keep them at a healthy temperature. They are indeed important, which is why you need to be careful when choosing one. Choosing a great thermos flask isn’t hard, especially when you know the a few things about it.

Thermos buying guide

Material

The material of a thermos does not determine how well it will work. But it matters when you consider some other factors like cost, durability, functionality, and aesthetics. The most common materials a thermos company uses to make the inner chamber of a thermos flask are glass, metal and plastic.

Glass

Glass is a hygienic choice for a thermos flask’s inner chamber. It is also very aesthetically pleasing. However, a few falls later, and it can shatter. It is also heavier than other materials, so it isn’t a great carry-around option.

Metal

The most common metal used for making thermos flasks is stainless steel. It is also the most practical and durable option. It doesn’t scratch, and it maintains temperature quite well. The only minor drawback is that is can be expensive.

Plastic

Plastic on its own isn’t a great material, but with a suitable coating, it works quite well. Plastic retains heat well, and it is lightweight. But, it can break or scratch easily.

The same materials can make the outer coverings, too. Glass flasks are beautiful but heavy and fragile. Metal flasks are practical and durable, but not so stylish, and plastic flasks are lightweight, but also fragile.

The material used in making the lid of the cap is also important. You need one that will seal your drink without letting heat out. The best choice is a screw cap. Some flasks have secure caps that don’t spill even when they fall.

Size/ capacity

You need to determine what size of flask you want for two reasons. Firstly, you have to consider how often you will carry the thermos around. If you need a thermos, you can carry around with you then go for a small to medium-sized one, and if not, there are many large options. Secondly, you need to consider how much of your drink you want in the flask. Compare that volume with the capacity of your flask, and you’ll be good to go.

Efficiency

Thermoses come with different efficiency levels. Some of them can only keep your drinks hot for 6 hours, and you can go for it if you intend to drink it early. However, if you want a bit more wiggle room, you can get a thermos that stays hot for up to 12 hours.

Thermoses work much better at keeping drinks cold, however, so you may not need one that is so efficient if you only carry cold drinks. Keep in mind that these features can affect the price of the thermos.

Conclusion

Thermos flasks are important, especially if you’re always on the move. They are important year-round, depending on what temperature you want your drinks at. But, bear in mind that each thermos comes with instructions, and if you don’t follow them, you may not get them to work at full efficiency.
